We are using the disney dining plan and are a party of 8. I understand that an 18% gratuity is automatically added to the bill, however I'm unsure how to plan for this because we are paying with dining credits. What price is the gratuity based upon?

    Dear Sarah,

Thank you so much for stopping by to visit us here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your great question about planning ahead for your upcoming Walt Disney World Resort vacation!

Yes, that is correct that with the Disney Dining Plan, a gratuity is automatically added. The 18% represents the cost that you would have paid if you had paid via cash or credit card as opposed to Disney Dining Plan credits. If your dinner would have been $100, for example, if you priced out the meal items separately, then you would pay $18 of gratuity. That can sometimes be surprising to people when they are unfamiliar with the Disney Dining Plan. If you order less expensive items from the menu, then you would pay less gratuity.

Hope that helps to clarify some of your questions! Please visit us again at the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your great questions!

    Have a magical vacation!
