Are there any unwritten rules for costumes for MNSSHP? For example, would something like platform shoes that add 5" or really tall hats be prohibited? It would be a shame to have a costume done and not be admitted for something we were unaware of.

Greetings, Scott. Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. I'm your host - your Ghost Host - for this evening's discussion about the spooky side of Walt Disney World.

Scott, when you dare to visit Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, you'll find that many other mortals will join you in wearing their Halloween worst...er...best. The official guidelines for your otherworldly outfit are as follows: "For the safest and best possible Guest experience, please choose costumes that are not obstructive or offensive."

Ah, but you were asking about the unwritten rules, you say? Well, Scott, I prefer things written in (tomb)stone, but we'll see what we can do. First, do remember that this is a family event, so nothing too gory or, well, scary. Anything that may be taken for a weapon could make the spirits nervous, and naturally, you don't want to endanger any other mortals. Your clothing shouldn't drag too much along the ground for anyone to step on or trip over, and any masks should not obstruct your vision. If your tall hat isn't much taller than, say, the Goofy or Sorcerer Mickey hats you can buy in the Parks, I wouldn't fret. And I don't think platform shoes should be a problem if you can walk in them, though your feet may feel frightful at the end of the night.

Many Guests have posted photos of themselves in costume during the party online, so you may be able to get some inspiration there. I hope this helps you plan your eerie ensemble, Scott. Now beware, or one of our happy haunts may just follow you home!

    Ghastly Yours,

    Kathy K.

Meet the Panelist: Kathy, Florida

I've lived my whole life just an hour's drive from Walt Disney World, so I've been a regular visitor for as long as I can remember. Even after all these years and so many visits, I love that there's still so much to discover! Now that I'm a mom myself, seeing my favorite place through my son's eyes has given me a whole new perspective that I enjoy sharing with other parents of young children. Learn More About Kathy
