I understand you did the 11 night Med cruise. Advice for beating jetlag not only for adults but 4 & 6 yr old boys. Also, theme nights? We sail July 9, 2011. Any other great hindsight hints?

My family absolutely loved the Mediterranean voyage aboard the Disney Magic!

We flew Tennessee to JFK to Barcelona. We brought neck pillows and small travel blankets. My son and I watched movies. Neither one of us could sleep. My husband slept a little. Upon arrival, we went to our hotel to check in. While waiting for our room, we went for breakfast. Then returned to our hotel for a nap. We were going to try to follow the advice to stay up til bed time but we were all miserably tired. We took a nap for a few hours and woke up at dinner time. We went and had dinner then returned to the hotel to relax. We went to bed early and all woke at 3 a.m. hungry. It was rather amusing. We had a snack and went back to sleep til morning. By morning, we felt like we were on the right time zone by the time we got to the ship that day.

Pirate Night was a lot of fun and they even did the fireworks with permission from Italy! That was the only theme evening. There weren't as many people in costumes as you find on the Caribbean cruises due to packing limitations. For the 11 night cruise, you'll have 3 formal/semi-formal nights. Again, it was a lot more casual than the cruises from Port Canaveral. For instance, my husband usually takes a suit jacket for dinner at Palo and formal night but he did not bring one to the Med.

In hindsight, I would have possibly stayed two nights pre-cruise in Barcelona to give us a little more rest time. By the time we finished with our day in Rome, we were absolutely exhausted. The cruise is very port intensive. We spent a full day in Rome and absolutely loved Pompeii as well. Pace yourselves! And allow some time to enjoy the ship.

Know which ports are your most important Must Sees and allow for a down day or two after long touring days. After Rome, we spent the next day just taking the train to Pisa. It was relaxing!

Let me know if I can help any further!!
