Going to Typhoon Lagoon during our stay. My 5-year-old daughter would love to swim through Shark Reef, but she's not as strong a swimmer yet; I know they provide life jackets, but would we be able to bring her own? Are there any limits or rules for those?

    Hi Alexandra,

As a mom, I'd heartily encourage you to wait until your daughter is older to experience Shark Reef at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon.  My 11-year-old son loved the experience when we were there this past September, but I think he would have been intimidated by the experience as a much younger child without confidence in his swimming skills.  Although children under ten can participate in this experience if they have an accompanying adult, I suggest you wait until your daughter is a confident, self-sufficient swimmer. Meanwhile, she can enjoy watching the swimmers and sharks through portholes right in the center of the attraction.

Let us know if you could use any additional advice as you put together your trip plans.  I took my son for his first trip to Walt Disney World when he was five and I have many wonderful memories from that trip.  I would be happy to share my insight with you as you decide what your five-year-old might enjoy at the most magical place on earth.

    Best wishes,
    Jill
