I have two very small children. Is there a clever or sure way to put I.D. on them in case they would get separated from us?

Wow, JoAnn, that really is an excellent question.  Everyone wants to keep their kids safe while on vacation.

The first thing I would do to ensure the safety of your children is to take the time to introduce your kids to the first Cast Member you meet once you arrive on Walt Disney World property.  All employees (or Cast Members) of Walt Disney World wear the same distinctive white nametag.  If your kids become separated from you, they should feel safe approaching anyone wearing that nametag.  That Cast Member will then see to it that you and your children are reunited as quickly as possible.

You want to be sure that your children each have a copy of your cell phone number on them.  Include a second number as back-up in case your cell phone battery dies. There are some great ways to attach those numbers to your kids.  For instance, if you Google "sneaker ID," you'll see a number of products you can order before you leave for Walt Disney World.  These little engraved tags slip securely through your children's shoelaces.  Then, if your kids are temporarily lost, they can simply direct a Cast Member to the phone numbers on those tags.  Another option is to attach a luggage tag with your contact number through the belt loops on their shorts.  I've also seen children with specialized ID bracelets.  Don't include your kids' names on these forms of ID, just your contact information.

It doesn't hurt to dress your kids in distinctive, bright clothes for the day.  That makes it much easier to spot them should they wander off.  Take a photo of your children in their outfit for the day on your cell phone or digital camera each morning.  That may assist Cast Members as you are looking for the kids.  Trust me when I say that Disney has an excellent child retrieval plan in place.

Wishing you a safe and magical Walt Disney World vacation!
