I have two boys, a 2-year-old and a 7-year-old, It will be our 2nd time to WDW as a family in March, but a 1st visit for our little guy. We are booked at Animal Kingdom Lodge, but are considering the Polynesian and Contemporary. What do you recommend?

    Hi Lawryce:

This question has three correct answers.  Here's my opinion: My family, which includes two young boys, loves the Animal Kingdom Lodge. While I'm partial to the benefits and amenities of AKL, such as the savanna views, the dining, and the kid and family activities, the resort is sliiiightly further away from three of the parks than many other Disney properties. That being said, for me, the benefits of the AKL outweigh the extra minutes we may spend on the bus. Also, at any Disney resort, you'll need to factor in some commuting time for at least a couple of parks if you intend to visit all four major Disney World theme parks.

Upon entering the Animal Kingdom Lodge, your family will be mesmerized by the dramatic lobby expertly themed and filled with African artwork, artifacts, a fireplace (at Jambo House), and huge windows. The pools are great at Animal Kingdom Lodge. AKL Jambo House is home to the 11,000 square foot Uzima pool. The pool boasts a 67-foot slide as well as a tyke-friendly wading pool area. AKL Kidani Village is home to the wonderful Samawati Springs pool and kids water playground.

As you check in, request an activity guide from the front desk for a schedule of organized activities. Although subject to change, we found the following programs, among many others, available during our last stay at AKL Jambo House: ceramics, cookie decorating, face painting, animal tracking, pin trading, and trivia (similar activities are available at AKL Kidani Village). The general age range for most activities varies from 4-12 years old, although everybody is invited to join in the fun.

The Polynesian and Contemporary are both correct choices too, and both have the major transportation advantage of being on the monorail. If you have a savannah view in your room, I'd strongly consider keeping your reservation.  But if you change Resorts, the Polynesian is probably slightly more kid friendly over the Contemporary, but not by much.
