I am trying to way what is worth the extra money. First, lodging I want to stay on-site but cannot decide between the value all-star sports or the moderate coronado ($250 difference). Is the room size difference and closeness worth it???

    Hi Laura,

I think staying on site affords you a host of benefits that will greatly add to your family's experience and will, in fact, save you money.  Magic Express, the free luggage and transportation service is a huge benefit that will allow you to forfeit a rental car (assuming you are flying to Orlando Airport).  Extra Magic Hours allow your family extra time to see and experience all their favorite rides over and over.  Disney transportation throughout the parks is free and eliminates parking fees.

As you know, you and your family will benefit from these perks in any on-site accommodation. I recently stayed at the Coronado Springs Resort in a newly renovated room.  It was absolutely lovely.  The pool was well-themed, and the dining options were great.  During the same trip, I had the pleasure of touring the All Star Music Resort, and was extremely impressed.  In my estimation, the rooms were approximately the same size (I know technically, the Coronado's were a few square feet bigger, but to my "mommy-eyes" there was no perceivable difference.)  The pool was definitely something my children would love, and while there was no table service restaurant, the dining facility had options that would make everyone in my clan happy.  (We tend to eat outside our own hotel, anyway.)

These days, everyone is making decisions to maximize their fun while minimizing costs.  If  I had to chose between staying extra days, experiencing some character breakfasts or dinner shows, etc. and staying at a moderate or value resort, I would go with the value choice.  We tend to spend very little time in our rooms on Disney trips.  Obviously your choice is a personal one, but I hope some of my thoughts help you decide.

Whatever you chose, have a wonderful trip!
