Trying to plan wk long trip Jan 2016, 2a, 5yr princess. Ive been going to WDW my whole life but this is first trip for family. Im overwhelmed w/ new changes, particularly my magic +. What can I do to make sure we enjoy our trip and I cover everything?

    Hi Kristen,

As a Florida native, I grew up visiting Walt Disney World and couldn't wait to share the experience with my growing family. Prepare to see your heart grow a few sizes with nostalgia and excitement as you relive your favorite memories and make new ones together.

In my experience, the more you can plan in advance, the more you will be able to enjoy your vacation. With young kids, your pace will slow and that is not a bad thing. You may find that you notice things you never saw before and seeing it through their eyes will be amazing!

I recommend choosing 1-3 must-see attractions for each person in your party and plan around those activities. That way, anything beyond is just added magic!

For my family of four, I try to plan at least one character meal, make FastPass+ selections for our must-do attractions and characters and make a general schedule for our days. Something I never did before bringing children to the parks was plan a mid-day break. If you are able to return to your hotel for an hour or two with relative ease, I think you will really appreciate it and your kids will too!

Another thing I didn't anticipate was how much pool time my kids would want! I assumed we would spend all our time in the parks, but they begged to swim in the incredible pools no matter what time of day or how tired they were. Kids really do love the little things.

Once you start to have an idea of how your days will look, you can fill in moments in here and there. But remember to be flexible with your schedule and let the magic find you. I love the Planning for Pre-School Kids & Little Ones page for ideas and sample itineraries.

Wishing you a wonderful vacation, Kristen. Happy planning!
