We are trying to determine how many days we would need in WDW when we go mid-August. We have 2 daughters, 8 & 5, and wanted to get a realistic idea of how many days it would take to tour the whole Magic Kingdom, Epcot & Animal Kingdom.

That is an excellent first question for planning a trip to WDW.  If you have flexibility, I would suggest at least eight days at WDW.  With eight days, as a starting point, I personally would spread them out as follows:

    - Magic Kingdom: 2 days
    - Epcot: 2 days
    - Animal Kingdom: 1 day
    - Disney Hollywood studios: 1 day  (I see you didn't list this park, but I assume that was just an oversight)
    - One day break in the middle of the vacation (sleep in, enjoy the resort pool, perhaps dine at a Resort character meal, and/or go to Downtown Disney)
    - One day at a water park (toward the end of the vacation, or on any really hot day).

Even with this schedule, you won't likely be able to see absolutely everything you want, but you will have a great visit, you shouldn't be too tired, and you'll want to come back again.  And isn't that the true sign of a truly great vacation?!    ºoº
