We're trying to decide between a Friday night (24th) visit for the MNSSHP or a Wednesday night (29th). Which has the lesser crowd, traditionally? Also, please explain how that works if you are in the park already on a MNSSHP? Are you asked to leave?

According to the calendar on the WDW home page, there doesn't appear to be a Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party on Wednesday, October 29th.  That said, I can tell you that a Friday night party that close to Halloween will likely be a very crowded one because many of the locals will be in attendance.  If you can, I would recommend visiting the party on Tuesday night, October 28th.

If you are already in the Magic Kingdom on the night of a Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, you will notice that at closing time, Cast Members do sweeps of the various lands in the park.  Once closing time has come and gone, all of the guests who remain in the park should be wearing special bracelets that identify them as party guests.  Guests who do not have these bracelets will be directed to the park exit.  Cast members will be stationed at various points throughout the park verifying that guests do have bracelets.  It's actually a very efficient system!
