Disney's Hollywood Studios at night

is it true that you had ninja turtles?

    Hi Rachel!

I'm that DisNerd who loves to read about Walt's legacy in my free time. But, I can also confirm that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were at one time at Walt Disney World Resort as I actually met them on my very first visit to Mickey's house in 1991! (PS - You can find home video of their meet & greets online!)

This quartet of Turtles lived in 'Disney MGM Studios', which was renamed Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2008. When this park first opened, it was half homage to the history of great movies and television through attractions, rides and characters, but it also featured real working studios. In fact, the biggest attraction in this park for years was a multi-hour, behind-the-scenes tour of all things live action and animation studios, where guests would see props, sets, costuming, and recreations of 'so that's how they do it' stunts and action scenes. Really lucky guests could even see animators hard at work bringing scenes of Beauty and The Beast, Mulan, and Lilo and Stitch to life right before their very eyes.

If you look hard you can still find little mementos of the early days of this theme park, like the bronze dedication plaque across from Keystone Clothiers that says 'Disney MGM'. And keep your eyes peeled for the big red signs that say "Stage" and a number on the upper corners of some of the large buildings near the brand new Toy Story Land; these used to be the working live action sound stages where The All New Mickey Mouse Club filmed from 1989 until 1994. That's the show that introduced the world to some pretty now-famous mega celebrities. Bonus Tip: Ask my friend and fellow Disney Parks Moms Panelist Jennifer V. where you can find the Mouseketeers-turned-members of N*Sync in Epcot.

We'll See You Real Soon, Rachel!
