This is our 1st trip to WDW! Our family of 4 is going on a tight budget. Should we splurge and stay on sight for the extra hours at the park, or stay in our budget and stay off campus?

    Hi Melissa,

Staying on property does, indeed have a number of excellent benefits.  Some of these can actually save your family money.  For example, guests on property can use Disney's Magical Express, a free luggage and transportation service between Orlando International Airport and the resorts.  In addition, by staying on property, you can make use of Disney Transportation to and from the resorts and parks.  Both of these can save you the expense of a rental car.

That being said, going to Disney and staying on or off property is an amazing experience that your family will likely cherish!  During these tough economic times, using a careful budget while travelling is obviously prudent.  If you are able to secure a rate off property that is better suited for your family, you will still be able to enjoy tons of Disney magic.  I would recommend arriving at the parks as early as possible (the parking lots open before the main gates to the theme parks) to ensure you are able to see and do everything on your "wish list."  Some other tips for saving in the parks include pre-buying rain ponchos at a local dollar store and packing some snack items to carry along to the parks.  We regularly bring a soft, portable cooler-bag, for example.

Whichever you decide, I hope you have a wonderful trip!
