How can I make my trip to Disney with my 13 year old and 10 year old granddaughters extra special?

    Kathie:

"Extra special" can cover a wide array of budgets. Here are a few of my recommendations across the spectrum:

    • Splurge on a memory-maker dessert like the "Kitchen Sink" at Beaches 'n' Cream or the 8-scoop "Earthquake" from Ghirardelli's at Downtown Disney. There's nothing more fun than to stop for what everyone thinks is just your typical ice cream cone and order the biggest dessert on the menu!
    • Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian: Take a break from Magic Kingdom and head to an opulent resort for attentive service. If tea seems too fussy, my children still talk about our special dinner at the top of the Contemporary Resort at California Grill. The Disney skyline at sunset made the dinner even more spectacular.
    • Fireworks Cruise: I just booked one for my family after enjoying the less-expensive Pirates-and-Pals cruise a few years ago.
    • In-Room Celebration: Nothing welcomes you to your resort like Mickey. Opt for the less-expensive Milk-and-Cookies celebration from Disney floral to end a long day in the parks. I loved the special touch of finding Tinkerbell after I turned out the lights.

If you need help coming up with something over-the-top, consider reaching out to Disney's Dream Makers at (407) WDW-GIFT (407-939-4438). They're more than florists and can help personalize any occasion.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
