We are travelling from UK in Aug and we have some scouts in our party who would like to camp for the night at fort wilderness campgrounds, can we hire full camping equipment from there or do we have to bring our own ...Thanks

    Hi Wayne,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! As the proud mom of a Girl Scout, I love that you're thinking about giving your Scouts a camping opportunity during your magical vacation.

Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort is a really special place, and each time I visit I'm amazed by how peaceful and lovely it is there. It's a perfect balance to the energy and excitement of the theme parks. Not only is it a beautiful, natural setting, but there are also lots of great recreation options like horseback riding, boat rentals, archery, and fishing.

Wayne, I checked in with a Cast Member about renting camping equipment at The Campsites at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort. He shared that tents and cots are available to rent on a first-come, first-served basis. To rent those items, visit the front desk; these items cannot be reserved in advance. Other equipment, including fire pits, are not available to rent from the resort.

If bringing your own gear from the U.K. proves to be too difficult, my advice is to search for Orlando-area camping gear rentals, and it might make sense to check with local sporting goods stores too. An internet search may help locate reputable rental services, and you may also find some reviews that could be helpful in determining what you'll need. For an August visit, I've heard you'll want a box fan to keep the tent cool during the sleeping hours.

Alternatively, you could look at The Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort. While you won't get to sleep under the stars, you'll be in the same setting and will find your bedding, shelter, and even a full kitchen are at your disposal. Here in the U.S. we call that "glamping," and it sounds wonderful to me!

    Wishing you a magical vacation,
    Robyn
