I am travelling this summer with 4 3 year olds. One of them has autism. I have read the Q&A's on disabilitiesand the GAC. My question: do you have any tips on trying to prepare for our trip? Things we should definately pack/not pack? Can we bring wagon

    Hi Jenni!

Congratulations on your upcoming trip to Walt Disney World!

I do have a few tips for traveling with a child with special needs.

    Before you leave
    • Obtain a note from your child's doctor stating that your child is autistic. You can show this note to Guest Services when you arrive so you can obtain the Guest Assistance Card.
    • Prepare a schedule for the trip, taking your child's needs into consideration. For example, if your child thrives on routine, make sure you plan to awake, nap and sleep at the same time each day of the trip. If your child has a special diet, make sure to stock up on those items and bring them with you.
    Once you arrive
    • Obtain the Guest Assistance Card from Guest Services, bringing your child and note with you
    • Be flexible, even though you will be armed with your detailed itinerary, be flexible to change plans according to your child's needs. If your child is overstimulated for the day, consider just going back to the resort and taking a nap.
    • Plan to spend just a half day at the parks. Don't try to cram too much into one day and take a relaxed tour of the park.
    • Head back to your resort in the middle of the day when the parks are crowded and noise levels are high. Allow your child to decompress and come back well rested.
    • Bring earphones or earplugs with you to the park if your child is noise-sensitive
You can't bring wagon's into the park, but you can bring your own stroller or rent one when you arrive. Review the FAQ  for a complete list of items that aren't allowed in the park.

    Magically,
    Stacy
