I am travelling to DW in 2/09 and have booked room at the GF, but we are really considering switching to the Polynesian. Going with hubby, son, 9 and daughter 5. What do you recommend? What building/room type would you recommend at both resorts?

Hi Caroline - I've had the opportunity to stay at both resorts and I enjoy them both!  I wish I knew more about your hesitation so I could pinpoint your concern.  I'll give you my thoughts on both...if it doesn't help, feel free to write back to the panel with your specific concerns.

Grand Floridan (GF) - we stayed here once - in 2003.  I will admit we were hesitant at first because we are the t-shirt and shorts type of family and didn't think we'd fit it.  Boy, was I wrong.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that those staying at the GF wore the same type of clothes as guests staying at other resorts.  Granted, some guests tended to dress up more, especially for dinner, but there were still plenty of us t-shirt and shorts type people to make us feel comfortable.

We stayed in the Big Pine Key building and I loved the location.  It's not far from the main building and it's in between the two resort pools.  This is closest building to the themed pool which your children will enjoy swimming in as you watch the monorails wisp by.

The downside for us was the location of the self-parking.  It is literally across the street from the GF and it's a bit of a walk.  There are also only two washers/dryers in each building....it was very difficult for me to get my laundry done.

Polynesian (Poly) - I love everything about this resort, including the volcano pool - very cool feature for kids of all ages!

Most of the long houses are fairly centrally located.  We enjoy staying at Samoa (between the two pools) or Rarotonga (when we want to have a monorail view).  Tahiti is a little further away, but it's a short walk to the Transportation & Ticket Center.

    I hope this helps!  Diane
