    James from MS Asked

We are traveling with my 9 year old high functioning autistic daughter during Thanksgiving week. I was wondering if there were any tips or if anyone has experience with autistic children in the park.

Hello, James, welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, I'm really glad you're here.

I have first-hand Walt Disney World Resort travel experience with an Autistic teenage boy and can personally attest to how he comes into his own during our visits and displays great developmental and social gains. We begin by determining which theme parks we will visit the most and then select a Disney Resort hotel nearby which we can easily get back to for an afternoon break.

Disney's Magic Your Way Vacation Packages are super convenient affording an optimal, inclusive trip with Disney Resort hotel, theme park tickets and a selection of one of many Disney Dining packages that fit your needs and budget.

Once booked fully control and customize your vacation through My Disney Experience online or mobile app for those important Advanced Dining Reservations, FastPass+ selections and personalization of MagicBands. I use the mobile app as a mini-schedule system with my son to help him with transitioning.

Plan ahead with Disney's Services for Guests with Cognitive Disabilities with a particular focus on the "Disability Access Service" which you can discuss with a Cast Member at any theme park Guest Relations. I love the visual schedule guides and many other tips in the link. As well, Disney's Services for Guests with Disabilities is also a great planning tool. The downloadable "Attraction Guides" for each theme park are extremely helpful.

Thank you for your question, please feel free to seek further guidance and advice, James.

    Best Disney Wishes~
