We will be traveling to WDW in September with a family member in a wheelchair and a service dog. How does rider switch work.

Hi there, Celeste! We're glad to see you back here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

Mickey and his pal, Pluto, want to make sure that Walt Disney World Resort is a magical place for everyone, and that includes service animals. Service animals are allowed on select attractions, though they are permitted with caution on others and completely restricted on some. I recommend checking the Service Animals webpage for a full listing of attractions at each of the four theme parks.

If riding with a service dog, guests will utilize the same entrance as wheelchair users. For the rides the dog cannot go on, there will sometimes be a kennel near the boarding or unload area (these are in relatively quiet locations, and they are supervised by a Cast Member), or you can use Disney's Rider Switch Service. To do this, you'll want to approach the Cast Member at the attraction entrance with your entire party and let them know you need to participate in Rider Switch, and they will issue you a Rider Switch entitlement. Then, one or more members of your travel party will go on the attraction while one or more stays with the dog. When the first group is done, they can switch, so the second party can enter the ride queue using the FastPass+ entrance. It sounds complicated, but it's actually a very straightforward process in person!

Since your family member will be using a wheelchair, you can also check the Mobility Disabilities webpage for a list of attractions with boarding procedures, including:
    *Remaining in a wheelchair
*Transferring from EVC/wheelchair to the ride
    *Transferring from ECV to wheelchair
    *Must be ambulatory
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Disability Services at (407) 560-2547 or disability.services@disneyparks.com.

I hope this helps, Celeste! Have a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Eean, Pennsylvania

Hi, I'm Eean from Pennsylvania!  I may have an unusual name, but my passion for Disney is not unique.  It’s amazing how many people you can find who love talking about, "The Most Magical Place On Earth!"  I'm that mom who always has her ears perked at PTO meetings, in the grocery store aisle, or at middle school basketball games waiting for an opportunity to give someone a planning tip to help make their vacation even more magical.
