I will be traveling to WDW in Oct. 2009 with my husband, 7, 5, 4, & 2yr old. Heard this was a cheap and quiet time. Is it wasteful financially to stay at Polynesian or should I because I heard I must have access to the monorail? Only visiting Magic Ki

    Annemarie,

I wouldn't say it's wasteful - the Polynesian is a beautiful resort and the monorail location is very convenient.  However, if you are only visiting the Magic Kingdom then I wouldn't say it's necessary either.

For a family of 6 wanting convenient access to the Magic Kingdom, I'd suggest you consider renting a cabin at Fort Wilderness.  These cabins can accommodate your family in one place, providing you much more space than a traditional hotel room.  They also offer the convenience of having your own full kitchen, great for full meals or even just late night snacks.  And the Fort Wilderness resort has boats that take you directly to the Magic Kingdom, so you'll still have easy access.

Don't picture camping!  You can camp here, but you can also stay in comfort in the cabins.  Fort Wilderness offers fun family activities like a nightly (free!) campfire with Chip and Dale, and movies on a big screen under the stars.  You can buy or bring your own marshmallows to toast for s'mores too!  There are also fun things like horseback riding and a haunted hayride for even more fun (small fee applies).  Fort Wilderness is a great place for families!  It's also a much more economical option for your family, and will save you somewhere in the neighborhood of $100/night.
