Mom and daughter on Expedition Everest

We are traveling to WDW this December for our parent's 50th wedding anniversary. Both of my parents smoke. Can you tell me where they would be allowed to smoke in the parks and at our resort?  We are staying at Beach Club Villas.

My mother and mother-in-law are both smokers. They have both been to WDW with us. My Mom is going with us again this June.

Due to their smoke breaks, I have seen many of the locations at the parks. Let me tell you, they have given some of the loveliest (quiet, out of the way) areas of the parks to designated smoking locations. I particularly think the area at the exit to Big Thunder Mountain looking over towards Tom Sawyer Island is very nice. Then again, the area near Tomorrowland Speedway looks on to the beginning of the track but includes the fumes of the cars. At any rate, these locations are easy to find.

There are smoking locations throughout the parks so that your parents will not have to backtrack too much to reach these areas. Just tell them to give you a heads up when they need to stop and you can locate the nearest location via the map.

A new challenge for smokers will be that all hotel rooms (including private guest room  balconies and patios) are now smoke free (as of June 1, 2007). I will not be surprised to see my Mom outside in her pajamas (as she does when staying at our house) visiting the designated area. I’d be interested to find out if the designated locations at resorts are working okay for non-smokers and smokers alike.

First, you will find on any theme park map or resort map the designated locations. There is a very comprehensive list at that gives the locations at each theme park. Use the search feature in the top right of the screen, inserting smoking. Click on the first match Disney Smoking Area for the list.

By clicking on “Disney Resort Maps with Designated Smoking areas” to look at the Beach Club, you will see 3 outdoor smoking areas convenient to the Villas.

I wish your parents a magical, golden wedding anniversary.
