    Matthew Asked

Traveling with party of 6 in September, our first time to WDW. We are staying in the FW cabins and I wondered how easy/far it is to move around within this resort, what cabin circle worked for others in relation to events and activities?

    Howdy Matthew,

I will actually be headed to Fort Wilderness next month and have stayed there many, many times!  Getting around the resort is fairly painless as long as you are aware of the system!  Since automobiles are prohibited in many areas of Fort Wilderness, there is an internal bus that transports guests to the main areas of activity, including the Settlement area which is home to the Trading Post, Pioneer Hall, and the Marina, and also The Meadows area where you'll find Meadows Trading Post, The Bike Barn, The Swimming Hole, and the Campfire / Movie area.  If you're headed to the Settlement, hop aboard the Purple route bus, and take the Orange to head to Meadows. Both internal buses will also make a stop at the front of the resort where guests can disembark to transfer to a bus headed to the theme park of their choice or Downtown Disney!  You can also rent a golf cart by calling the Bike Barn directly at (407) 824-2742. Electric Carts are a dime a dozen at the Fort and eliminate the need for using internal bus transportation!

Also, please note, that in many cases, boat transportation may be your best bet.  To travel to the Magic Kingdom, Wilderness Lodge, or the Contemporary Resort, simply hop aboard the Purple internal bus and disembark at the Settlement.  Head out to the Marina to board the appropriate water launch!  Travel time is about 15 minutes!

My favorite Cabin loop is Bobcat Bend, Loop 2100, because it is one of the smaller loops, and is one of the closest to the Settlement area!  That being said, the higher the Loop number, the farther from the center of the resort. Loops range from 2100 to 2800 with 2800 being the closer to the outside of the resort!  You can check out a Loop Map and find more info at my favorite unofficial site, AllEars.net.

    Best Wishes,
