I am traveling in November with my husband and 2 boys (5 and1). We are driving down and we are thinking about staying in The Riverside. Do you think that this resort is too big or should we change to the French Quarter?

I've written many times about how Port Orleans Riverside is my favorite of the moderate resorts.  I've enjoyed the opportunity to stay at three of the four of them; the French Quarter is the one I've yet to try.  In my opinion, Port Orleans Riverside is not "too big" of a resort.  While it is a large resort, I think it was designed so as to lend to a quaint and charming feel.  We stayed there in September of last year and found that our room (in the Alligator bayou section) was very convenient to the resort hub where you'll find the food court, lounge, sit-down restaurant and lobby.  The main themed pool was somewhat further from our room, but still well within convenient walking distance, even for our little ones.  And if we didn't feel like going to the main pool, there was a smaller pool minutes from our room.

While we were there I went for a morning walk (trying to ward off those Mickey bar pounds) and used the time to explore the grounds a bit.  I found that with the various bridges and walking paths most of the rooms weren't excessively far from the hub or the main pool.

We also meandered along the Sassagoula down to the French Quarter one morning.  It definitely does have a smaller feel to it.  I especially enjoyed the ironwork and the Mardi Gras theming there.

If the only hesitation you have with staying at Riverside is the size of the resort, I wouldn't worry too much about that.  If you do change to French Quarter, it, too, is a lovely place.  It's pretty tough to go wrong whichever you choose!
