    Kallie from NY Asked

Hi, I am traveling with my 11 month old daughter and husband to Disney World during the middle of August. I am extremely nervous that the heat is going to be too much for her (and maybe me). Any suggestions on how to beat the heat?

I think that heat tolerance can be attributed to the kind of weather you're accustomed to, Kallie.  I don't know much about the weather in New York, although my husband did go to college there and even the native Texan in him had a hard time dealing with the humid summers in New York.  All that to say that--depending upon where in New York you're coming from--maybe the heat won't be as bad as you think, compared to what you're used to.  I do have a few tips that might help, though:
    1. See if you can find one of those battery-operated fans with a squirt bottle attached.  We used one of those when my son was very young and it was a lifesaver.  If you can't find it ahead of time, you probably won't have difficulty finding one for sale in the parks.
    2. Stay hydrated.  You are welcome to bring water bottles into the parks with you.
    3. Plan for lengthy shows during the heat of the day.  Certain attractions offer a nice respite on hot afternoons.  My top choices are: Mickey's PhilharMagic or Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom, Ellen's Energy Adventure at Epcot (my kids have been known to nap in that one), Finding Nemo - The Musical at Animal Kingdom and The Voyage of the Little Mermaid or The Great Movie Ride at Hollywood Studios.
    4. The Baby Care Centers are also another great place to stop in for a diaper change and breath of cool, calm air for a few minutes.  Feel free to use those as a place to feed your daughter and give her a short respite from the heat if need be.

I hope those tips help keep you cool during your upcoming trip, Kallie.  Enjoy!
