Three Generations Aboard Ship

We are traveling on the Dream in Dec 2011 and I would like to know if there will be any Christmas festivities for our children (ages 4 and 8) on the ship. Also, will the weather in December be warm enough to swim and enjoy being outside at Castaway Cay?

    Hi, Tonia!

December is a great time to sail on Disney Cruise Line (DCL) -- especially for children!  From Thanksgiving through the new year, Disney Cruise Line adds sparkle to each ship, with traditional “turkey day” fanfare, Christmas feasts, “snow flurries” and New Year’s Eve galas.  You get to enjoy it all if you've been "nautical" or nice!

Special stem-to-stern holiday events begin during each of the Thanksgiving cruises and include:

    • King Triton’s Tree Lighting -- nightly in the atrium lobby, where a young guest helps Disney characters light the glittering, 3-deck-tall tree.
    • Family Holiday Crafts -- decorating stockings, gingerbread houses and holiday cards
    • Holiday Storytellers -- sharing tales of Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. Plus, a story about the magical feeling of the holidays on a ship.
    • Traditional Holiday Feasts
    • Til We Meet Again/See Ya Real Soon -- (Disney Magic & Disney Wonder/Disney Dream) featuring a special holiday edition of DCL’s cheerful farewell on the final night of each cruise.
In addition, when the Disney Dream stops at Disney’s private island in the Bahamas -- Castaway Cay -- during the holidays, the celebration continues with “snow flurries,” decked-out Christmas trees, Disney character meet-and-greets, holiday carolers, and holiday-themed activities and crafts for children.

In terms of December weather in the Bahamas, I encourage you to keep track of the latest temperatures and conditions online since winter weather in the Caribbean can be unpredictable.  I've been there when it was sunny and warm but also experienced an unseasonable cool snap.  It's best to be prepared.

Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
