Hello We are traveling to Disney World this week. My daughter broke her finger and is in a small arm cast. Will the cast prevent her from being allowed to go on roller coasters or any other rides? Thanks

Hey there, hi there, ho there, Elizabeth! You're as welcome as can be! If you are arriving between now and March 31st, please click here for more information.

As one of the two resident doctors on the Panel, I just had to grab your question! I know how it is to wEAR a cast for an extended period. When I was seven, I had a cast on my leg for the greater part of a yEAR. The great thing about being a kid, though, is that you just roll with it! I suggest your daughter takes advantage of all the "famous" signatures she can get while she's in the Parks.

Please make sure to check with her doctor for the all-clear before you head to the Resort. Once you have that, there shouldn't be many rides (if any) that she's restricted from. You probably want to avoid attractions where she could get the cast wet (unless it's waterproof!), so protect her arm with a poncho or jacket on Pirates of the Caribbean, and I would avoid Splash Mountain and Kali River Rapids.

There are a few attractions that have health advisories (since they are a bit bumpy), so I would look at YouTube videos to preview them. This way, your girl can decide if she feels comfortable riding them. Overall, unless her cast interferes with a safety restraint, it will be up to you to determine what she can and cannot ride. Above all, make sure she stays hydrated and gets plenty of down-time. Nothing like a swollen arm inside a cast during vacation! If you have any concerns, First Aid Centers are staffed with excellent medical personnel. They are in each of the Parks if she needs treatment, or you have any questions.

I hope your trip is just what the doctor ordered!
