Mom With Kids After Run

We are traveling to Disney World next June. We have enjoyed Disney many times together. This time I'm looking for something extra special to do with our children. Our challenge is that they're older; our son will be 14 and our daughter will be 21. Help?

    Sue:

I am in the same boat with a trip in January with two of my older children. Here are a few suggestions of what I'm considering for my own trip that might fit the bill for you:

    • Miniature Golf: Getting away from the parks brings novelty to a trip. A round of miniature golf allows you to be somewhat spontaneous without breaking the bank.
    • Fireworks Cruise: Choose between being picked up at a Magic Kingdom resort or one of the Epcot resorts to enjoy an hour-long cruise before Wishes or Illuminations. We did this last week with my 14-year-old and younger son and it was all they could talk about for the rest of our vacation. It's on our to-do list for future trips. Call 407-939-7529 to book.
    • Rent a SeaRaycer: If the fireworks cruise is out of your budget, take one of the SeaRaycers out for a spin either at Downtown Disney or at one of the Magic Kingdom or Epcot marinas. Your son is now old enough to go by himself. I would recommend renting for an hour so you have enough time to explore the waterways.
    • Splitsville Luxury Lanes: Bowling brings out the kid in everyone but this new alley at Downtown Disney includes padded booths and sushi on the menu. They also have billiards. I strongly recommend making a reservation at their website online or by calling 407-938-7467.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
