We will be traveling to Disney World in January 2011 with an almost 7 month old. Would you recommend buying him a seat on the plane trip down or just carrying him as a lap infant? We are at such a toss up with this any advice would be greatly appreciated

    Heather:

I've traveled several times on an airplane with infant children and every time I carried them as a lap infant--but for a different reason than you'd think.

I'd been warned by several friends with infants that plane travel can be excruciating on a baby's ears. The solution: nurse during take-off and landing, as their swallowing will help keep the pressure from building. I followed my friends' advice and the trips were easier on the baby, not to mention on the passengers around me...

Yes, you can save money by not purchasing the seat for your child, but I think most moms would agree that we'd pay anything to keep our baby comforted. Because I can do this easily in my lap (whether nursing or bottle-feeding), the extra benefit of the savings is nice, but not my primary reasoning.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
