We will be traveling in August and staying at the Art of Animation. THere will be 7 of us, including 5 kids, ages 1-9. DO you have any suggestions on what to pack and what not to pack? I'm not opposed to doing laundry.

    Hello, Jane!

Oooh! You'll be staying at the new Disney's Art of Animation Resort! How exciting!

We are frequently in Walt Disney World in August, and I can tell you that it is hot. For packing and planning purposes, I can tell you that you'll either want two (at least) changes of clothes for everyone (adults included) per day or plan on using the many self-service laundry facilities that are located throughout the resort. (It's easy to toss in a load or two of laundry right before enjoying some time in the pool!)

August can also end up with quick, but powerful rainstorms. I make sure that each of us has a hat to keep that rain out of our faces, as well as a rain poncho, which we've purchased at WDW parks on previous trips. If you don't have ponchos handy to pack, you can simply pick them up at almost any WDW park or resort store. At the time of this writing, adult ponchos are $10 and kids' sizes are $8.

We also bring water bottle / fan combinations for the kids. While you can buy souvenir versions of this in all of the parks, we've also brought them from our local variety store. Fill them in the a.m. with water and/or ice and the kids will be happy to spray you whenever you'd like a cool-down!

Finally, I always bring a wide-mouthed, refillable water bottle for each person, regardless of the time of year of our trip. These can be filled with ice in the morning, and refilled with beverages and ice throughout the day. Making sure that everyone is hydrated will not only keep everyone happy, it will also keep you from having to get out of line for an attraction because somebody is really thirsty.

Please send additional questions as you think of them! I'd love to help!
