Mom With Kids After Run

We are traveling with 2adults ,3 teenagers and & 7 yr old. We really want to stay at Port Orleans, but told we have too many people. We are only in the room to sleep, and always make due with one room when we travel. Any exceptions? 2 rooms too pricey.

    Renee:

I feel your pain. With four children, our family of 6 never quite fits a standard two-double-bed room at most hotels. The limit of 5 in the trundle-bed rooms at Port Orleans: Riverside is due to fire code, I'm sure.

    Consider some alternatives:

    1. Go during Value Season and keep your eye on special offers. If your heart is set on Port Orleans, take a look at the rates during off-season--and you might be able to afford two connecting rooms afterall. If school is an issue, visit as soon as the kids get out for the holidays and before Disney moves to holiday rates. Last year, Disney offered free dining for selected dates running into December. I haven't heard of any offers yet for this year, but a site like www.mousesavers.com will keep you up-to-date.
    2. If you really want to stay on the Disney grounds, compromise and consider getting two rooms at a Value Resort. For a few dollars more, you can fit into a family suite at All-Star Music, and you'll also get a kitchenette with a microwave and mini-fridge. Cooking one meal a day in your room may save you enough for the suite.
    3. Spend your vacation at two resorts. If you save enough on your meals from the All-Star family suite, you might find that you've got enough for the two rooms at Port Orleans for at least half of your trip. The hotel  is quite helpful in moving your luggage.
    4. Although I have not done it myself, large families like mine sometimes find that renting a home in the Orlando area through a site like www.allstarhomes.com or a suite at one of hotels right off property may be what their budget can afford. You might even want to split the cost of a house with family for a reunion--some homes can have 6 bedrooms and a pool!

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
