Totally lost on trying to figure out how to look at disney on a tight budget.....have looked at so many things and so many webistes. We will be traveling with an 8 and 14 year old. any kind of help would be appreciated

Hi, Bob!  I know it can be hard to think of such an amazing vacation on a tight budget, but it's absolutely do-able!

One of the first things you can do to think about keeping costs in check is to consider the season you are traveling.  Often, at the very end of the summer (late August into September) or right after the New Year holidays, you'll find rates go down a little, and you may even luck into a free dining promotion.

Most people on a budget immediately think Value resorts, and that is definitely the way to go to keep the budget in check.  I do want you to look at the family suites, though.  You'll find them now at the All Star Music resort, or in a few months (May 2012) at the Art of Animation resort.  They are a little more expensive than a standard room, but you'll have a small refrigerator, a microwave, and two full bathrooms.  You can save some money by planning to have a few meals in your room.  We almost always do breakfast, and with the two full bathrooms, I can have everyone rotating in and out of the shower while breakfast is being eaten.  It saves time in the morning, also!

My husband and I usually share meals, and we find it's often more than enough for us.  Sometimes, especially at quick service locations, the kids meal burger is plenty, especially with the fixings bar at some locations.

We bring our own snacks with us, which actually started out due to dietary concerns, but ended up being a great savings!  I also encourage the kids to save birthday or holiday money they get from Grandmom to take along for souvenirs.

I hope we can help you make this work, Bob!
