A Ride in the Teacups

We have tickets for Disneyland with our three kids ages 6 (46”); 4(39”) and 18m. On rides, will I be able to hold the 18 m on my lap (he is too big to wear) and have another child next to me? Will my husband be able to take the other two by himself?

    Hi, Heather!

I’m so glad to hear you’re planning a trip to the Happiest Place on Earth with your little ones. You’re going to make so many magical memories exploring the theme parks as a family!

There are several attractions your 18-month-old can ride with you in both theme parks. If there is no minimum height requirement posted or it is advertised as being for “all ages” or “any height,” then it’s safe for him to ride on your lap, along with an older sibling next to you. Yes, your husband can take your two older children on attractions your youngest can’t experience yet.

You may want to take advantage of the Rider Switch service, which allows Guests with children who don’t meet the minimum height requirement to take turns experiencing attractions. One parent and your older children can ride while the other parent waits with your younger child. You then "switch" so the second adult can enjoy the attraction without waiting all over again. The specific procedure can vary depending on the attraction, though (especially if Disney FASTPASS service is offered), so it’s best to let a Cast Member at the beginning of the queue know that you’d like to use Rider Switch and ask what steps you should follow.

I hope this helps, Heather, and that you have a perfectly pixie-dusted visit to the Disneyland Resort with your little Mouseketeers! Please come back with more questions as you continue to plan.

    Wishing you magic,
    Courtney
