Three generations going to disney for the first time. What should we do to not make each other crazy? We are going for 7 days,2-70 year olds, 2-40 year olds, 1-36 year old, and 1-8year old. Thanks

    Hi Estelle,

I've done a Disney family reunion before and it was a blast!

It sounds like you've identified one of the most important planning considerations for destination reunions - how to make the most of your time together. Let me share a few tips that worked really well for us when we did our Disney family reunion:

Tip #1 - Divide and Conquer

Some family members wanted to hit every high-adrenaline attraction, while others wanted to enjoy the more laid-back attractions. As such, we divided into groups based on intended agendas and then planned to meet up later (usually for a 3:00 ice cream break!).

    Tip #2 - Scavenger Hunts

Whether you stay together or split up, the idea of sharing a goal or objective can keep the mood lively and fun. You could setup a scavenger hunt for things like "Hidden Mickeys" (representations of Mickey Mouse's head and ears subtly hidden around the theme parks and resorts).

Tip #3 - White Elephant Souvenir Exchange

Set a reasonable spending limit and remind everyone that the goal is to entertain instead of gain. Encourage everyone to find one wacky souvenir to contribute and let the good times roll!

Here's a bonus tip from your buddy Derek:

No matter how you end up spending each day, or with whom you spend it, I'd recommend making sure that the whole group is together for dinner every night.

There's tremendous power in breaking bread with family members, but that power gets ratcheted up a few extra notches when you're dining at Walt Disney World. If I had a to choose a "last meal," it would certainly be with my family at one of my favorite Walt Disney World restaurants. (Want some recommendations? Feel free to write me back and I'll gladly share a few!)

I hope that helps and I hope you have an awesome vacation with your family!!

    Best regards,
