Thinking of Camping at Disney in a tent. No previous experience. Would love all the advice possible. Myself, mom and 3 kids. Dec '2009 or July/August 2010.

Hi Laura!  Fort Wilderness is a great spot for your vacation at Walt Disney World.  There is so much there for the kids to do and so different from the other Disney resorts on property.  They can enjoy pony rides, horseback rides, fishing, two pools with one just being renovated, canoeing, archery, playgrounds, Disney stables, blacksmith shop. boat rentals, and a beach!  Plus you might want to get reservations for the two great shows, Mickey's Backyard Barbecue and Hoopdedoo Revue!  And don't forget to see the free nightly campfire program complete with movies and s'mores.

The tent sites all have grills and picnic tables and sites will have either full hook-ups or partial hook-ups of electricity and water only.  Most of the site loops have at least one air conditioned comfort station that includes restrooms, showers, ice machine, phones, and laundry room with washers and dryers.

There are two "trading posts" where you can find a small selection of supplies and foods.  You can also get a grocery service to deliver food right to you at the campgrounds. www.gardengrocer.com
I suggest you rent a golf cart to make it fun and easy to get around as Fort Wilderness is quite vast.  They do have an internal bus system if you find the golf carts to be too expensive (about $50 a day).

Bugs and animals are at a minimum. Disney works their magic to make them go somewhere else so you are not bothered.

Trails End is a great restaurant in Fort Wilderness so you don't have to go far for a dining spot.  You will be able to catch a bus to all theme parks and boat direct to the Magic Kingdom as well as boats to the Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge resorts.
