Hi, i am thinking on bringing my 4yr old niece to Disneyland for Halloween, but i am reading the approach of the new Oogie and seems focused on the villains. .. so i am wondering if should i wait til she is older to manage the Scary messages around? Thanks

Boo, Diana! Ghoulish greetings to you, and thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your Halloween Time question!

My three Mouseketeers (ages 3, 5, and 7) tend to shy away from any scary Halloween events, so I can understand your concern with the all-new Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party at Disney California Adventure Park. Some aspects of the new party are similar to Mickey’s Halloween Party, and some are brand new. For instance, the World of Color Show, “Villainous,” is exclusive to the Oogie Boogie Bash, as is a new Disney Villains walk-through experience promising spooky surprises. Even though those experiences are more focused on villains, there are still many opportunities for Halloween fun that aren’t. For example, the DescenDance, located in the Backlot of Hollywood Land, features plenty of dancing with Descendants Characters to their favorite beats. I think your niece would also enjoy the new live stage show, Mickey’s Trick & Treat, which includes not-so-scary Halloween tales at the Disney Theater in Hollywood Land. Plus, if your niece enjoys meeting Characters, there will be plenty of photo opportunities with favorite Characters dressed to impress in their Halloween finest!

The Frightfully Fun Parade returns to the Disneyland Resort this fall, too, as will the many trick-or-treating candy cauldron stations throughout the party. I think your niece would be just fine with both of these activities as well.

Overall, the Oogie Boogie Bash is meant to be a family-friendly experience, so I wouldn’t worry about being terrified of any aspects of the party. If she’d prefer to skip the spookier sights, such as the transformed Redwood Creek Challenge Trail or the “Villainous” World of Color show, there will still be plenty to keep her busy throughout the park, from trick-or-treating to the stage show and parade. Of course, you know her best, so I suggest trusting your instinct if you think she’s ready for this special event or not.
