Hi there, My husband and I will be travelling to WDW (from Australia) in late June with our 21 month old son. Are the character dining experiences worthwhile? Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Petra!

Character Dining is one of the highlights of my family's trips to Walt Disney World. Small children can become frightened when meeting characters for the first time because they are a lot larger than what they appear on television.  Dining with characters is a great way to acclimate them before meeting them in the parks.

Located in the Contemporary Resort, Chef Mickey's serves breakfast and dinner buffet style.  Here you will see Mickey Mouse and his pals decked out in their chefs gear and the characters will rotate throughout the restaurant during your meal. This restaurant has the added benefit of being at a resort with the monorail actually running through it so getting to Magic Kingdom is quick and easy.

If your little one is a fan of Disney Junior shows, then I would definitely recommend Hollywood and Vine over at Disney's Hollywood Studios.  Little Einsteins, Special Agent Oso, Handy Manny and Jake from the Neverland Pirates all make appearances for breakfast and lunch at this buffet. Once your finished with your meal, head over to Disney Junior Live On Stage! to see the gang from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Jake and The Neverland Pirates, Doc McStuffins and Princess Sofia.

My favorite character breakfast hands down is the Best Friends Breakfast featuring Lilo and Stitch at 'Ohana.  This is the only place you will find Lilo and Stitch outside of the parks, you will also see Mickey and his pal Pluto.  The breakfast is served family style and since it is located in the Polynesian resort, the monorail is just a step outside to whisk you away to Magic Kingdom.

Character dining at Walt Disney World is very popular and reservations are highly recommended, being able to get a table without one is highly unlikely.  I hope this helps and please visit us again if you have anymore questions!

    Enjoy your Disney Time!
