Hi moms. What are the Theme parks policies on rainy days? I saw a question about how you can do the inside activities, but what about rides shuting down, park closing etc. We have 4 day pass plus and 8 days to do it in, but I'm a bit concerned. we go 6/7

    Hi Teri,

Great question and I had to do a little checking to see if there was any "official" posted policy regarding weather and closures. I could not find anything. I can tell you that in my many, many years of traveling to Disney World, I can only recall two days where the Disney parks closed due to a Florida Hurricane.

Unless there are extraordinarily unsafe weather conditions like a hurricane or tornado, the Disney World theme parks do not close. There was actually a period of extremely heavy week long rain last spring, and the parks were open each day for their entire period of listed operating hours. One of my fellow Moms and dear friends was actually there and sent pictures back. It was unbelievable to see the amount of rain, and there she was in her Mickey poncho, enjoying her day. Luckily a large percentage of the attractions and shows are inside buildings, or covered by canopies and not effected by the rain. Even the few uncovered, outdoor attractions (like Dumbo) are generally operational in the rain, as long as it is not lightning. The main exception to all of this is Test Track which will not operate in the rain given the safety issues with the cars on the outside track.

While I like to see the sun while I am at Disney World, I have to admit we actually enjoy a rain day every once in a while. A large number of guests stay away from the parks on rainy days and we generally find the crowds very minimal and wait times low when the rain begins to fall. It is the perfect time to throw on a poncho and hit some attractions with little wait.

Wishing you a magical and dry trip!
