Mom With Kids After Run

Hi. Can you tell me if any of the table service restaurants are particularly well set up for very active toddlers who need to run around a bit? I'm going to be at Disney for 6 days with 3 kids under 3 (a joint family trip). Thanks!

Hi, Leah!  I feel your anxiety over meals with little ones.  I'm not gonna lie, it's tough to find a restaurant at Walt Disney World that offers the kind of leg room little ones need.  You'll find many restaurants fill their tables, and while there's plenty of room for guests to move in and out of their chairs, it can be tough for a server to negotiate if they have to dodge tumbling toddlers.

Here are some ways we've handled the rambunctious crew we travel with.  When you arrive at a restaurant, ask if you can have a table in a more remote location.  Whispering Canyon, for example, has a bit of an alcove that, while it won't give much room to run around, is away from the main part of the dining room.  Other restaurants may have more secluded tables, and they may afford you some stand up and jiggle room.

I also check dollar stores before a trip.  I pick up some little toys, games, books, etc. to pack.  I only pull them out when the kids are all seated and well fed.  Because they are new things, they don't get bored as quickly, and they tend to sit content a bit longer.  I also like to play games with them at the table to keep them busy.  When my girls were this age, we would blow straws back and forth to each other across the table or play the game with your hands, where you put one hand on top of the other, then pull the bottom one out.

One more thing - go hungry!  Avoid lots of snacking through the day and keep them on a meal time schedule.  It really helps if they are hungry, because they'll sit and eat longer.

    Have a wonderful vacation!
