How do you tell if older magic bands work before you leave for the parks?

Hi there Lisa! Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your planning question. I'd be happy to assist you today.

Aren't MagicBands the best? I love accessorizing my theme park outfit with a variety of colors and patterns. At home, our MagicBands are some of our favorite souvenEARS. My children use them to "play Disney" and pretend that they are coming and going to the theme parks.

Lisa, I have family members that live near Orlando, and sometimes when visiting them, we will pop up to a Disney theme park for a day trip; the allure of the Most Magical Place on Earth is just too strong to keep us away when we are within a couple hours drive! I have reused MagicBands on multiple occasions for these sorts of quick visits that do not include an overnight stay at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel. The official word is that the battery life of a MagicBand is about two years, so if your MagicBands are from within that window of time, you should able to use them again with no issues. If you are slightly over that two year mark, you could probably still use them, but I would have Guest Relations outside of a theme park try them first before attempting to scan into a theme park entrance just to be safe.

If you are looking to purchase new MagicBands, there are some adorable patterns available on shopDisney right now. The Minnie Mouse Icon MagicBand is my favorite! In addition, MagicBands are available for purchase in retail locations throughout the Walt Disney World Resort. Happy shopping!

I hope this has been helpful in finalizing some last minute details before you fly off to Neverland. Best wishes for a magical journey!
