We are taking my 4-1/2 yr old to DW for her first visit in October. Is there anything special we can do for her to help commemerate this celebration? I was told we can get a "this is my first visit" pin - is that correct?

You can pick up a "My First Visit" button at guest relations at any of the parks (same pin at all parks). It's probably the single best thing to do to help Cast Members commemorate this event for your 41/2 year-old.

Other things you might want to do:
    - Make a t-shirt for her (or the whole family) to wear.  Simply buy some blank t-shirts and iron-on t-shirt transfer paper (sold at most places that sell printer paper), and then make and print some cool designs at home with your computer.  Be sure to include some large lettering that says something like "My First Visit."  In general I find that custom t-shirts - especially groups wearing similar/same shirts - attract as much or more attention (which often leads to magical/pixie dust ) than the park buttons.

    - Take photos of her on all the classic rides (Dumbo, Tea Cups, Small World, etc.), so you ( and she) has these memories for life.  If you think you might return, consider picking a family photo spot that you can return to year after year -- very fun to be able to compare how your child grows over the years at the same photo spot.

    - Consider booking at least one character meal, since these meals are extra special and so much fun for the little ones

    - Plan to spend some time at the pools, since this is often a highlight for the kids (and it helps give you a break from walking around the parks)

Hopefully that gives you some good ideas and/or sparks some other thoughts to help you plan an especially magical visit to WDW.
