I will be taking our 2 & 1 yr. old to Animal Kingdom for the first time for their birthday. What are some must do's? Character greets? Does Animal Kingdom offer anything for first birthdays?

    Hi Amanda,

Thanks for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question.  I remember taking my daughter to Disney's Animal Kingdom when she was an infant and toddler.  There is so much to do there with little ones!

First, take a ride on Kilimanjaro Safaris.  On this ride, you will be able to see many exotic animals, including possibly lions, elephants and giraffes.  The ride can be a bit bumpy, but is fun for the whole family.  I also suggest that you take a ride on the Wildlife Express Train out to Rafiki's Planet Watch.  This out-of-the-way location includes Affection Section, where your children can pet a variety of animals including rare domesticated breeds.  When my daughter was a toddler, she loved this area and would spend so much time with the animals!  Your children may also enjoy a ride on TriceraTop Spin in DinoLand U.S.A., where they can gently fly in a dinosaur.

As for their birthdays, do be sure to pick up a birthday button for each of them at Guest Relations when you enter the theme park.  It is so much fun to hear cast members and guests alike wishing your little ones a happy birthday.  You also may see your children receive a little extra pixie dust when wearing this button, like a free balloon or cupcake.  This extra magic is not guaranteed, but is wonderful if it does occur.  Also, how about a special birthday meal?  You could make reservations for Tusker House Restaurant at breakfast or lunch for Donald's Dining Safari.  Though your little ones might not eat much at their ages, they will get to interact with Disney characters on their birthdays, which will be adorable.

I hope that these thoughts are helpful for you, Amanda!  Have a great time planning your vacation, and please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
