We are taking our 4 year-old for his 1st WDW trip next week! We fly into Orlando at 12:00. I'm trying to plan what we should do the rest of that day. Any ideas? Also, how long can we expect it to take to get to the resort using the DME service? Thanks!

    Hi Jennifer,

I've used Disney's Magical Express several times and have spoken to many people who have as well (including a bunch of Moms on the panel).  We all agree the biggest variable in determining what time you will arrive at your resort is your plane, and not Disney.  Once you land, you will bypass luggage claim (hooray!) and head for the Magic Express Check-in Counter at the airport, where you will be directed to the appropriate bus.

It's taken me, on average, a bit longer than an hour from the time my plane landed to the time I pulled into my resort. One my most recent trip, I was at the front desk one hour to the minute my plane landed in Orlando.  On another occasion, it took about an hour and twenty minutes.  Each bus stops at several resorts once on Disney Property, so depending upon where your resort is in the queue, your trip may take a few minutes more or less.

To be safe, I'd say you will be ready to head out for fun at around 2pm on your arrival day.  As for what to do that day, I would base my decision on whether you would like to use up a day on your park tickets or prefer to do something that doesn't require admission.  If your four year old is anything like mine, the site of Cinderella Castle is a great way to start a vacation!  If you prefer non-park options, you can pack swim wear in your carry-on and head to the pool, take a shuttle to Downtown Disney for some exploring and shopping, or explore your resort and then head out for dinner.  Remember, your room may not be available until your regular check-in time, and the luggage you checked into the airline may arrive several hours after you do, so ensure that you have what you'll need for the afternoon with you.

    Have an amazing time!
