We're taking our 2 and 4 year old girls to Disney in mid-August. If we were going to spend just one day at a water park which park would you suggest for preschoolers? Any specific attractions or areas we should be sure to visit? Other tips for water parks?

    Hi Casey,

You'll find people that will vote for Blizzard Beach (BB) & others for Typhoon Lagoon (TL) & honestly you can't go wrong.  We recently visited TL & my boys loved it!

TL is more shaded which helps protect little ones from sun. I think the Ketchakiddee Creek area at TL offers more ways for parents & smaller kids to interact together.

My boys loved the Bay Slides for kids under 60".  Gangplank Falls is billed as a family whitewater rafting adventure. My boys got a big kick out of it but I saw some very young kids get off that didn't look very happy. My boys also liked the underwater viewing area at Shark Reef. Castaway Creek is a must do.

Having said that, the Surf Pool at TL has bigger waves & can be a little rough for young kids (even at the shallow end) so I would keep a very close eye on them. Melt-Away Bay at BB offers more gentle waves.

My boys wear swim shirts which helps protect from sun & chaffing. Water shoes are a must because the pavement can get super hot. Bring sunscreen & use it often. You may want to bring a hat or visor. Swim diapers are required for those not potty-trained.

You can bring in coolers, food, strollers & towels (no glass).  Lockers are available for rent & I'd leave any valuables there. You can not bring in rafts or other air-filled toys. Inner tubes are available at no charge. Standard life jackets are also available at no charge but you'd need to leave a driver's license or credit card as a deposit. If you forget something, not to worry - there are merchandise locations that carry almost everything you'll need.

Get there early so you can stake out a good spot to use as your home base when not on the attractions. You can reserve premium spaces by calling 407-WDW-PLAY. I LOVE these & find them great when traveling with little ones.

Wishing you many magical memories :-) Allison
