    Cheryl Asked

We will be taking my son 3.5 for his first visit. Staying at Wilderness Lodge. We arrive 11/3 and check out 11/8 we  have Mon-Fri at the parks. Can you recommend an itinerary or the best way to manage our time? It is a little overwhelming. Thank you.

    Hi Cheryl!

I know exactly what you mean when you say you're feeling overwhelmed. I've got lots of experience in taking youngsters on Disney vacations, so I'd love to share a few tips that might help:

    Tip #1: Set Reasonable Expectations

In a week's time, it'll be impossible to enjoy every single experience at Walt Disney World. Instead, be selective about the attractions, shows, parades, and fireworks shows that you think are "must-do's."

    Tip #2: Pace Yourself

Since you'll be staying at Disney's Wilderness Lodge (which I absolutely love!), sneak back there in the afternoon for a power nap or a refreshing dip in the pool (or both!). Recharging everyone's batteries will pay off big time because it'll give you a much-needed energy boost to tackle more fun adventures in the evening hours.

    Tip #3: Wander Around

The best way to do this is to let your son be the guide. I see so many guests hustling around the theme parks, running from one attraction to the next. When you do that, you blow right past so many wonderful things to see and experience. When I let my daughter be our guide, she ends up stumbling upon spontaneous experiences that we probably would've missed.

Here's a little tip from your buddy Derek:

Be prepared for situations where your son may want to ride a particular attraction multiple times. Your knee-jerk reaction may be to resist, but it my opinion it's not the worst thing in the world. Case in point - I've experienced the Haunted Mansion hundreds of times (literally), but I still feel like I see new things or uncover new story elements each time.

I hope that helps you to get a good starting point for your planning. The next step would be to pick some must-do's (e.g. attractions, shows, etc.). Feel free to write back if you like some ideas on must-do's to consider and I'll be happy to help!

    Best regards,
    Derek
