We are taking our son on his first trip to Disney (our second) for his 5th birthday. What are some cool things we can do to celebrate? Can we have a cake at dinner one evening or something?

A 5th birthday (and first trip) is very special and it’ll be so much fun celebrating at WDW.

If you are staying at a WDW resort, call the operator and ask for the birthday message. You might hear a Goofy birthday wish.

Stop in at Guest Services at the theme park that you first visit and ask for a birthday button. Get an autograph book and have the characters sign birthday messages.

If your son likes dinosaurs, I would suggest starting the day with Donald’s Safari Breakfast at the Tusker House Restaurant. Afterwards journey over to DinoLand to visit the attractions. Make the first stop The Boneyard so the birthday boy can run off some steam and dig for dinosaur bones.

Another great place to celebrate is Chef Mickey’s at the Contemporary Resort. Take your resort transportation to the Magic Kingdom and then take the resort monorail to the Contemporary. Riding on the monorail is usually a delight for young boys. Tell the Cast Member at the monorail entrance that your son is celebrating his birthday and ask to sit up front in the monorail. If seats are available, you’ll get a great view. If not, ask again on your return trip or ask to wait for the next monorail.

Tell your hostess and server at every place that you dine that your son is celebrating his birthday. Magical things will often happen. For instance, Chef Mickey’s brings a complimentary cupcake although personalized cakes can be ordered at an additional fee with 48 hours advanced notice. You can order personalized cakes for most restaurants by calling 407-WDW-DINE (407-939-3463) and asking to be transferred to the specific restaurant to discuss your celebration. Happy Birthday!
