We are taking the 3 night Bahamian cruise on the Dream. You can register at the Port at 11 a.m. and boarding begins at 1 p.m. Do people start lining up before 11 a.m.? What do you do until 1 p.m.? Also, what is the advantage of boarding early?

Welcome aboard, Amy! Congratulations on your upcoming cruise aboard the Disney Dream. That was the first Disney ship on which my family sailed, so I have a real love for that particular ship. You are going to have an amazing trip!

Port Canaveral opens around 11:00 a.m., though they are known to open the doors a bit earlier sometimes. Guests are sometimes waiting outside before then, yes, but there is no real need to do so. Once you arrive at the port, you'll spend time going through security, checking in, and you will then receive your boarding number (unless you take Disney Cruise Line's ground transportation from the airport, in which case you'll receive your boarding number at the airport). Then, families will wait in the terminal until their boarding number is called.

To pass the time, there are televisions playing Disney cartoons around the terminal area. We like to step outside on the left to a viewing platform and get our first up-close look at the ship which we are to call home for the next few days! Mickey and Minnie make appearances near the model of the ship in the center of the terminal throughout the morning too. If you see a photographer hanging around the ship model, head over there and ask if Mickey is on his way. You might just get to be one of the first in line to meet him, so have your cameras ready.

Though the Disney Cruise Line website lists 1:00 as the boarding time, most likely boarding will begin closer to noon, though I can't guarantee that. Once you're onboard, you'll have time to wander the ship, get in a swim in the pool or ride the AquaDuck (so pack your suits in your carry-ons!), and have a nice lunch. The earlier you board, the more time you'll have with less crowds to enjoy a few spots onboard.

Let me know how else I can help as you continue to plan, Amy!
