Preschooler on Carousel

Taking my will be 14 month old daughter in May. I want to take her on several rides, but am unsure if she will sit well through them. Any advice? Babywear? Hold on and hope for the best? I also have a 3 year old to look after.

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Heather! I have two kids that are young, and I can tell you it was quite the challenge to figure out how to navigate them onto a ride the first day of our vacation. When my husband stayed behind in our Walt Disney World Resort Hotel room, I went into Mrs. Incredible mode and brought out my Lillebaby carrier!

My baby girl was around your daughter’s age and my son was a preschooler. He was old enough to hold my hand and sit by me on Peter Pan’s Flight when the lap bar was down. My daughter, I baby wore around the parks, using our double stroller rented from Kingdom Strollers (a Disney-authorized provider) each time we went from one land to another. Some of the rides have mid-height lap bars that make a larger child on your lap very difficult or babywearing impossible. I found this to be true on Haunted Mansion. My young daughter I baby wore until we were in our DoomBuggy and then slipped her next to me on the seat. She enjoyed holding on and looking around. I would test her out on an enclosed ride such as Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, which will also give your kids the ability to shoot lasers at all of Zurg’s targets and score points. Next up, a short clamshell ride through Journey of the Little Mermaid will tell you if she’s indeed ready for longer rides on the bench like the People Mover or Pirates of the Caribbean (though you should be able to baby wear her during this one).

If I can help recommend other preschool tips like the Preschool Guide, the Baby Care Centers or other family tips, please let me know. I’m hEAR for you! ~ Lindsey P.
