We are taking our first trip to WDW in April of 2016. I want my 2 youngest children to experience many of the rides, but am afraid that they will be scared once we get to the front of the line. Do we lose our fastpasses if they don't want to ride?

Hey there, Nicole! Thanks for stopping by to see us again at the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

Hoping your little ones are ready to brave the "big" rides at Walt Disney World is something I'm quite familiar with. Until very recently, our 5-year-old son was very skeptical of the rides that have a bit more of a thrill factor, so we usually just planned to do other things. There was one exception, though: my husband really wanted my son to join us aboard Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. We're local and visit often, so for months we made FastPass+ selections for all three of us to see those dwarfs - and each time, my son refused once we got to the front of the line. What's a thrill-riding parent to do?

Here's what I suggest. Go ahead and make your FastPass+ selections for the attractions you're hoping the little ones will try. You'll all go through the FastPass+ entrance, touching your MagicBands to the Mickey head touchpoint as you do. This will effectively "use" your FastPass+ selection, but don't worry. For many of the more intense rides, you can take advantage of the Rider Swap Service if your younger children decide they're not interested yet. Just alert a Cast Member that you have children that have decided not to ride, and one adult in your party can stay behind with them while the other boards the attraction. After the ride is over, you just switch. Also, if you have a child who does want to ride, he or she can ride twice, once with each adult. Sweet!

There's more information about how Disney's Rider Switch Service works on the Walt Disney World website. You'll also find a list there of all the attractions that have it available. I hope this helps put your mind at ease while making those magical plans. Please come visit us anytime if you have another question.

Meet the Panelist: Kathy, Florida

I've lived my whole life just an hour's drive from Walt Disney World, so I've been a regular visitor for as long as I can remember. Even after all these years and so many visits, I love that there's still so much to discover! Now that I'm a mom myself, seeing my favorite place through my son's eyes has given me a whole new perspective that I enjoy sharing with other parents of young children. Learn More About Kathy
