Taking our first Disney cruise. We plan to fly in a couple days early and stay near Port Canaveral. Will the Disney Cruise line bus only take us to the Port, and then do we need to find our own ride to the hotel?

Welcome aboard, Melissa! There are many resorts near Port Canaveral in Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach. However, Disney Cruise Line does not offer transportation to those resorts. Disney's transportation is for guests heading from the airport directly to their reserved cruise vacation onboard the ship that day. If you plan to stay near the port, you'll need to find your own transportation there from the airport and your own transportation from your hotel resort to the cruise port when it's time to set sail. Some of those hotels may offer shuttles to the port.

My suggestion would be to book a night or two at one of the Walt Disney World Resorts before you set sail. Disney makes it so easy to transition from land to sea and back again when you do this. Guests staying at Disney resorts receive free transportation from the Orlando International Airport to their Walt Disney World Resort on Disney's Magical Express. Then, you can book the Disney Cruise Line ground transfers to take your family on the hour long ride from the resort to Port Canaveral on the morning of your cruise, and from the ship to the Orlando International Airport on debarkation morning. There is a charge of $35 per person each way for the cruise ground transfers, but believe me it is worth every penny to let them take care of the details.

Plus, while you're staying at the Walt Disney Resorts before you sail, you can either purchase park tickets to enjoy a day or two at the parks, or save money by simply taking the free Disney resort transportation over to Disney Springs to enjoy some great shopping and dining, all with Disney magic sprinkled in.

I hope that helps as you continue planning, Melissa!
