We are taking our first cruise April 2011 out of LA. Our dinner sitting is 8:15pm. Our girls are 9 & 13 yrs, normally eat 6-6:30pm. Any advice to make sure they will enjoy a late dinner? Don't want them falling asleep at the table. Thanks!

    Hi Debby,

Congratulations on booking your FIRST cruise!  This is a very common concern, and one of the reasons that I had always opted for the earlier dinner seating - however now I prefer the later seating.

Historically, I would tend to feel very rushed to get everyone ready and down for the early dinner seating - and it would sometimes force us to cut our days onshore or at the pools a little shorter than we would like.  By having the later seating we can grab something on deck (pizza, sandwiches, salad, chicken, burgers etc) in the late afternoon/early evening and still feel hungry at our dinner time.

For children registered in the youth programming, they can take advantage of the "Dine and Play" option during their late dinner seating.  Their meals will be expedited, and then the youth activities counselors will arrive to escort any of the children wanting to go to the Oceaneer Club/Oceaneer Lab to that destination.  This allows for the parents to enjoy the remainder of their meal while the kids go have a little fun.

    Hope this helps!
