Mom And Son On Run

We are taking a family vacation first week of Jan 2010, with our 4 sons (3.5, 5, 12, 15 yrs old) and are staying outside of the resort at Bueno Vista Hotel beside the outlet mall. Should we rent a vehicle, or will we be able to get around?

    Hi Dina,

We have stayed off property a few times and, when we have, found it convenient to have a rental car.  Many off-property hotels have some type of shuttle service to and from Disney, however, the times and drop off locations can be a bit limiting, especially when travelling with children (who, in my experience,  tend to need a nap, a swim break, change of clothing, etc. on their own schedules rather than a pre-published bus schedule).  That being said, if your resort provides transportation to Disney, and you plan on spending most of the day at the parks without returning to your resort mid-day, you could certainly forgo a rental car and make use of Disney transportation to move around on property throughout the day.  Disney Transportation can take you between parks, to Downtown Disney and from the parks to any Disney Resort (for character meals, etc.)

On balance, if you can secure a reasonable rental car rate, I would go ahead and reserve a car.  I think you will find that travelling to the parks is much more convenient if you do.

    Have a wonderful trip!
